Mauxion Fins Bois 1960 Selected by Passion for Whisky
An eye-catching cognac for the true aficionado.
We are proud to present an exceptional and rare creation from the Cognac house Mauxion. Distilled in 1960 (the year of the first laser and John F. Kennedy's iconic speeches) and bottled in 2024 selected by Passion for Whisky. This exquisite cognac is made from grapes coming from vineyards located in the Fins Bois. The grapes harvested in that year have had a journey of more than six decades, refining their character and depth with time.
Tasting note
Colour
This exceptional cognac sparkles in the glass with a deep, amber glow. On rolling, the cognac reveals its viscosity, with slow, rich tears sliding down the inside of the glass.
Nose
The first impression is that of refined complexity. Rich notes of dried fruits such as figs and sultanas dominate. In addition, subtle hints of caramel and honey. As the aromas develop, nuances of oak, vanilla and a hint of cocoa emerge. A delicate hint of leather and tobacco proves that we are dealing with a long-aged cognac here.
Taste
At the first sip, the mouth is immediately indulged with a harmonious blend of flavours. Ripe plums and juicy peaches open the dance, followed by layers of butterscotch and toasted almonds. The second sip is perhaps even more beautiful than the first. Now the spicy flavours emerge. Think cinnamon, nutmeg and a touch of white pepper, which are perfectly balanced with the softer notes of vanilla and honey.
Finish
The finish is long, silky and exceptionally elegant. Subtle notes of dried fruit and spices linger long on the tongue, while the tannins of the oak add a pleasant dryness that invites another sip. A hint of dark chocolate and a touch of tobacco complete the finish, providing a masterful finish.
Overall impression
Distilled in 1960 and bottled in 2024, this Cognac Mauxion is a masterpiece of the Fins Bois region. Decades of ageing have resulted in unparalleled complexity and depth, with every element coming together in perfect harmony
Mauxion Cognac
The origins of the Mauxion family date back to 1575 when Pierre Mauxion was born in the village of Houlette. Today, after 13 generations, the estate is still home to the Mauxion family. Antoine Mauxion was the first of the family to produce eaux-de-vie in 1743 and ten generations have since followed in his footsteps. Today, the house of Mauxion Selection continues to embrace original traditions with regard to tending the vineyard and producing high-quality eaux-de-vie.
All Cognac produced by Mauxion Selection comes from the prestigious terroirs of Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. To preserve the flavour of their eaux-de-vie, Mauxion Selection Cognac is bottled at cask strength without blending or reduction, allowing the eaux-de-vie to develop with exceptional complexity and depth. While the careful selection process means quantity is limited, it guarantees a Cognac of unparalleled quality, every time.
