Boogieman Beer Society Imperial Stout 2024-002

This specific branch of Wijn- en Whiskyspecialist van der Boog is entirely dedicated to aging beer. While many people are familiar with the concept of a wine cellar, only a few enthusiasts age their beers.

However, there are plenty of beers available that improve significantly with proper aging. Think of renowned beers like Westvleteren 12, Cuvée van de Keizer Blauw, or Hertog Jan Grand Prestige.

With pride, we present the second beer bottled under the label Boogieman Beer Society VS Eggens Craft Beer. This special brew is an Imperial Stout from the 2023 brewing year, perfectly suited for several years of cellar aging.

Boogieman Beer Society VS Eggens Craft Beer - Imperial Stout 2024-002

What is an Imperial Stout?

An Imperial Stout is a robust and rich beer style known for its high alcohol content, full-bodied flavor, and complex aromas. Originally developed in England, this style was brewed for export to Russia and the Baltic states in the 18th century. The term "Imperial" refers to its history of being brewed especially for the Russian Imperial Court, with a higher alcohol content and more intense flavors to endure the long journey overseas.

Our Imperial Stout is bold and dark, almost pitch black, allowing no light to pass through. It has a fine brown foam. The aroma reveals notes of sweet chocolate, roasted malt, and a powerful bitterness. From the first sip, you immediately taste the roasted malt, followed by a pronounced bitter coffee aroma.

The beer tingles delightfully on the tongue and finishes with a soft, sweet bitterness reminiscent of Haagse hopjes (Dutch coffee candies).

Aging advice

We recommend an aging period of 4 to 5 years for optimal flavor development, though we understand if you can’t wait that long. This beer is also ready to be enjoyed immediately.

Tasting note

This Imperial Stout showcases impressive depth: intensely dark, nearly pitch black, and completely opaque. A fine brown foam crowns the beer and holds well. The aroma opens with seductive notes of sweet chocolate, roasted malt, and a robust bitterness, inviting you to take your first sip.

Upon tasting, you immediately notice the deep flavors of roasted malt, which form the beer’s sturdy foundation. Shortly after, a bold bitter coffee note emerges, perfectly balanced by a subtle chocolate sweetness. The mouthfeel is rich and effervescent, creating a lively drinking experience.

The finish is long and harmonious, with a soft, sweet bitterness reminiscent of Haagse hopjes. It concludes with a refined balance of roasted tones and an elegant sweetness, making every sip an invitation for another. This beer is a powerful and complex treat, ideal for slow and mindful enjoyment.
