Tasting Notes

Nose

Rich and inviting with raisins, figs and a touch of plum. Then come caramel, dark bread and gentle spice drifting toward clove and pepper, with a hint of chocolate in the background.

Palate

Full and rounded with toffee, malty sweetness and dark fruit. The yeast adds that classic Belgian spicy note, while a light bitterness keeps it focused. The mouthfeel is smooth and layered without becoming heavy.

Finish

Medium to long and warming with lingering caramel, dried fruit and gentle spice. It fades slightly dry and beautifully balanced.

Westvleteren is brewed at St Sixtus Abbey in Westvleteren, in Belgium’s Westhoek region. It is a true Trappist brewery, meaning the beer is brewed within the abbey under the supervision of the monks. Production is intentionally small and distribution is strictly limited, which is why the beers remain scarce and are often mainly available through the abbey itself. The philosophy is clear: no growth for the sake of growth, but brewing with care, tradition and quality as the highest goal. Westvleteren has an almost mythical reputation worldwide, yet the real charm lies in its simplicity and consistency.
