New Yarmouth 20 years 2005 - 2025 #14 The Many Faces of Rum
This remarkable Jamaican rum was distilled in June 2005 and bottled in July 2025 by The Whisky Jury as part of their acclaimed The Many Faces of Rum series. After twenty years of maturation, it comes to life at a natural cask strength of 59.8%, uncoloured and non-chill filtered. With an ester range at birth between 1300 and 1400, this is a high-ester expression showcasing the intensity Jamaica is known for, refined by the elegance and balance that define The Whisky Jury’s selections.
Tasting Notes
Nose
An explosion of tropical fruit bursts from the glass: overripe banana, pineapple, mango and guava, wrapped in hints of solvent, fermented fruit and a touch of acetone – classic high-ester New Yarmouth. Beneath lie warmer notes of vanilla, honey and toasted oak. As it breathes, layers of olives, dried coconut, leather and sugarcane molasses appear, creating an incredibly deep and complex aroma. Despite its intensity, the nose remains beautifully balanced.
Palate
Rich, full-bodied and vibrant. The high ester count delivers waves of tropical fruit, lime, banana and fermented pineapple, supported by spicy oak and traces of caramel. The mouthfeel is oily and dense, with the 59.8% strength amplifying flavours without harshness. Sweet molasses meets bright acidity, rounded by hints of vanilla, pepper and toasted nuts. As it opens up, a creamy undertone emerges, bringing cohesion to its bold structure.
Finish
Long, layered and satisfying. Tropical fruit, sugarcane and spiced oak linger with a dry, warming touch. Notes of citrus, glue and mineral saltiness keep the finish energetic and precise. A perfect balance between raw ester power and mature depth.
A high ester – yet balanced – Jamaican Rum selected by The Whisky Jury.
