Description

Ardnamurchan has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting young distilleries in the Scottish Highlands, and this Living Souls bottling is a fine example of why. This 7 year old single malt brings together equal proportions of peated and unpeated Ardnamurchan, matured entirely in first fill bourbon barrels. Bottled at 50%, it is a vibrant whisky where tropical fruit, creamy malt and vanilla are beautifully balanced by gentle campfire smoke and spicy oak.

Tasting note
Nose

Tropical fruit with passion fruit, ripe peach and a touch of pineapple. Vanilla, soft malt and toasted brioche add richness, while gentle wood smoke and fresh cedar gradually emerge in the background.

Palate

Full and vibrant with ripe peach, tropical fruit and creamy malt. Toffee and caramelised sugar bring rich cask sweetness, followed by vanilla, toasted oak and gentle yet clearly present peat smoke. A lightly saline and spicy note adds further character.

Finish

Nicely lingering with toasted malt, toffee and cedarwood. Gentle campfire smoke, spicy oak and a final touch of tropical fruit create a warm and beautifully balanced finish.

Ardnamurchan Distillery

Ardnamurchan Distillery stands at Glenbeg on the remote Ardnamurchan Peninsula, on the western coast of the Scottish Highlands. It was established by Adelphi, the independent bottler whose history reaches back to a nineteenth-century distillery in Glasgow. Planning permission was granted in 2012 and construction began in 2013. The first spirit was produced in 2014, and the distillery was officially opened by Princess Anne on 25 July. The first Ardnamurchan Single Malt followed in 2020.

From the outset, the distillery was designed around local resources, renewable energy and a circular approach to production. A nearby river provides cooling water and hydroelectricity, while solar panels and a biomass boiler fuelled by locally sourced wood chips meet its energy requirements. Draff and pot ale are reused on the peninsula as animal feed. Ardnamurchan produces both peated and unpeated spirit, which matures on site. A QR code on every bottle also provides information about its casks, distillation and bottling. Ardnamurchan therefore combines traditional double distillation with unusual transparency and modern, sustainable production.
