Aultmore 12 years 2008 - 2021 Single Cask #DL14918 for the Dutch Emporium Stores
Aultmore distillery was founded in 1897 by Alexander Edward, one of Scotland's best-known distillers, during the height of the late Victorian whisky boom. The popularity of Aultmore's single malt, which was widely supplied to the major blender houses of the time, led to the success of the distillery, which was particularly loved for the smoothness of its whisky. This smoothness combined with a very well-balanced flavour made this Single Malt rated Top Class by connoisseurs in the industry.
Origin and bottling
Distilled in September 2008 and bottled in August 2011 after a 12-year, 11-month maturation. This Single Cask whisky was selected by participants in an online battle between the three Dutch Douglas Laing Emporia. In the end, cask DL14918 emerged as the winner and was bottled especially for the three Emporia.
Cask type
This Aultmore was aged for over 12 years in a Sherry Butt. Eventually, 308 bottles came out of the cask. It was decided to bottle it at natural cask strength, 61.1% alc/vol.
Tasting note
Colour
Straw yellow
Nose
Without water, the aroma remains somewhat closed and needs more time. If you give it this time, you will be rearded with scents of caramelised nuts, walnut cake, cigar leaf and chocolate sultanas. The sherry character is evident and makes the aroma very appeling.
Taste
A very rich flavour. Again, the sherry character is very evident and the high alcohol content packs in perfectly. You really don't realise you are drinking whisky at over 60 percent. In the mouth, flavours of sultanas, figs, marmalade, oranges, nuts, pipe tabacco and wood aromas fight for attention. Again, take your time, this glass had a lot to say.
Finish
A very long finish, for minutes the mouth is indulged with the delicious flavour of orange marmalade and sherry. Softly spicy with a finale of hazelnut merinque.
