Glenfarclas 10 years

100% matured in Oloroso Sherry casks. Deliciously smooth, but with depth and an aftertaste you would normally expect from a much older dram.
A wonderfully sherried whisky and an excellent aperitif.

Tasting note

Colour

Straw gold.

Nose

What immediately stands out is the delicious sherry character. Also nice malt notes that are very mild in the nose with elegant spiciness. Nothing overpowers and this Single Malt Whisky is nicely balanced. If we leave the glass a little longer, beautiful aromas of vanilla, honey and soft fruits like juicy pears also emerge.

Taste

Elegant is the first thing that comes to mind. The bitter-sweet character clearly comes from the sherry cask and gives structure to this relatively light Single Malt Whisky. Hints of dried fruit, vanilla, cinnamon and even some cloves make it exciting.

Finish

The spicy aroma lingers longest on the palate. The finish is also wonderfully mild.

Overall impression

The youngest in the Glenfarclas family, but this 10-year-old Single Malt Whisky is very representative of what Speyside has to offer. Very nice value for money.

Additional information

Glenfarclas means 'valley of green grass', an indication of the richness of the pasture land surrounding the distillery. Indeed, the farm on the same piece of land on which the distillery is built existed from ein 1790 to 1988. Like many farms in the 18th century, there was much illegal distilling with the surplus grain grown. Since 1865, the distillery has been owned by the Grant family. In 1865, Glenfarclas was acquired for £512 and to this day the distillery belongs to the Grant family. This makes Glenfarclas one of the few distilleries in Scotland that is still a family-run business where the family is at the helm.
