Zuidam Oude Genever 5 years American Oak Cask Strength Special No.31 100cl

For our 31st gin special, we have chosen something completely different. We give you something with even more strength. The gin is distilled from equal parts corn, rye and barley. The 'new spirit' is distilled three times in pot stills. A portion is then distilled a fourth time with selected botanical ingredients such as juniper, liquorice and anise. Finally, the gin and botanical distillate are blended before maturing in American oak barrels. Nothing special so far, as we produce all our gin this way. The big difference is that our gins mature at 45% alcohol. This batch we matured at 60% ABV and did not dilute the gin after maturation. So this way, we have a cask strength version of our 5-year-old Genever.

Tasting note

Nose

Impressive and complex, the gin has a soft vanilla aroma combined with cinnamon and coconut. In the background, you will find some fruity notes (orange) that add to the depth and complexity.

Taste

The typical vanilla and Crème brûlée notes are supported with soft notes of coconut and clove ending in milk chocolate.

Finish

Long with vanilla and coconut.
