Description
Mandarine Napoléon is the kind of liqueur that feels a little classy without trying too hard. This mandarin liqueur is bottled at 38% ABV and delivers bright citrus with a soft, gently spiced warmth. Expect ripe mandarin and sweet orange like freshness up front, supported by a smooth, rounded base that also makes it enjoyable neat. In cocktails it’s brilliant when you want a citrus twist with a bit more depth than a standard orange liqueur. Tip: try a Mandarine Spritz. Fill a wine glass with ice, add Mandarine Napoléon, top with prosecco and a splash of soda water. Garnish with a mandarin or orange wedge. Fun fact: the name and style nod to Napoleon, and mandarin used to be a real luxury fruit, which fits the festive citrus character of this liqueur perfectly.

Mandarine Napoléon

Mandarine Napoléon is a historic mandarin liqueur whose origins reach back to the 19th century. According to the story, Napoleon Bonaparte was fond of mandarins macerated in alcohol. His physician Antoine-François de Fourcroy is said to have developed the idea of infusing mandarins in spirit before blending the resulting distillate with Cognac. Belgian chemist Louis Schmidt later discovered this recipe in Fourcroy’s notes and used it as inspiration for his own liqueur. Mandarine Napoléon has been commercially produced since 1892.

The foundation is made with handpicked Sicilian mandarins that are macerated and combined with Cognac. A range of botanicals also plays an important role, including cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, angelica and different types of tea. Together they create a liqueur in which citrus, spice and the character of Cognac come together.

Mandarine Napoléon developed into an international classic within the world of orange and mandarin liqueurs. It can be enjoyed neat, over ice or used in cocktails, with the combination of mandarin and Cognac giving the brand its distinctive identity.
