Sipper’s Rum

Sipper’s Rum is a fascinating and well-balanced blend that brings together rum traditions from Jamaica, Latin America, and Asia. Aged for up to 20 years in refill wooden casks, this rum offers a unique combination of sweet, spicy, and funky notes. The base consists of Latin American pot still rum, providing a smooth and approachable sweetness without becoming overly sticky. This is complemented by the funky esters of Jamaican rum and the complex, herbal influences from Asian rum. At 49% ABV, this rum delivers a long, layered finish, making it an excellent choice for those eager to explore the diverse world of rum.

Tasting Notes

Nose

An expressive and complex aroma featuring ripe tropical fruits, wood polish, and a subtle hint of vanilla. Spicy accents of cinnamon and nutmeg emerge, along with a touch of herbs and a light funkiness characteristic of Jamaican rum.

Taste

Rich and layered, balancing sweetness with spiciness. The Latin American base brings soft honey and caramel notes, while the Jamaican rum contributes ester-rich flavors of fermented pineapple and banana. The Asian rum adds a subtle spicy depth, with hints of wood, leather, and a touch of mint.

Finish

Long and complex, with lingering notes of dried fruits, spices, and a light woody bitterness. The combination of different styles makes the finish intriguing and refined, balancing warmth, sweetness, and spicy depth beautifully.

The Whisky Jury

The Whisky Jury is a Belgian independent bottler founded in 2019 by Joeri Van den Broeck. Its first release was a 1995 Ben Nevis and immediately established the philosophy behind the label: small quantities, distinctive spirits and, above all, highly critical cask selection. The Whisky Jury does not operate a distillery of its own, but searches producers and brokers for exceptional casks to bottle under its own label.

Although whisky was the original focus, the scope soon expanded. Rum in particular became an important part of the portfolio, with bottlings from countries including Jamaica, Guyana, Trinidad, Barbados and Fiji. Series such as The Many Faces of Rum and The Ester Hunter demonstrate a fascination with distilleries, styles, marks, fermentation and ester levels. Occasional releases of Cognac, Calvados and mezcal have also appeared.

Many releases are single casks, often bottled at natural strength and in limited quantities. Reputation alone does not determine what gets bottled; ultimately, the quality of the cask has to convince. This highly individual approach has earned The Whisky Jury a strong reputation among both whisky and rum enthusiasts.
