Kilkerran 15 years 2004 - 2019 Fino Wood
The Kilkerran 15 years Single Fino Cask, specially bottled for Bresser & Timmer, is a unique expression that combines the refinement of Kilkerran with the complexity of Fino sherry casks. This exceptional whisky has been aged for 15 years in a single Fino cask, which imparts a fresh, dry, and slightly salty character to the dram. The result is a beautifully balanced whisky with a mix of dry, fruity, and slightly smoky notes that reflect the typical Campbeltown character. For those who appreciate complex, layered whiskies, this edition offers an intriguing exploration, making every sip worthwhile.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose is vibrant and fresh, with dry notes of green apple, lemon, and white grape, accompanied by a subtle saltiness. Beneath the fruity freshness lies a hint of almond and a light smoky accent, giving the aroma an intriguing depth. A gentle touch of oak adds warmth to the profile.
Palate
On the palate, this whisky is full-bodied and complex. Dry sherry notes take the lead, with a mineral and nutty character typical of Fino sherry. These are followed by a touch of saltiness and fresh flavors of green grapes and citrus. The light smokiness remains in the background, providing a beautifully balanced mouthfeel, along with a gentle blend of spices like white pepper and ginger.
Finish
The finish is long, dry, and elegant. The saltiness lingers, accompanied by the nutty tones of the Fino cask and a subtle, lasting smoke. As the flavors fade, mineral and slightly fruity accents remain, offering a refined and satisfying conclusion.
Glengyle Distillery
Glengyle Distillery is located in Campbeltown, on Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula, an area known for its rich whisky tradition. Founded in 1872 by William Mitchell, after several closures and ownership changes, the distillery was revived in 2004 by Mitchell's Glengyle Ltd, run by the founder's descendants.
A unique feature of Glengyle is the production of single malt whisky under the name Kilkerran, in honour of Campbeltown's original name. The distillery uses traditional production methods, including the use of copper pot stills and a slow distillation process. Kilkerran whiskies are known for their rich and complex flavour profiles, with a harmonious blend of fruity, smoky and spicy notes.
The whisky is matured in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, creating a deep and layered flavour. Glengyle Distillery's commitment to artisan production and respect for tradition have earned it a prominent place in the world of Scotch whisky.
