Springbank 17 years 2002 - 2020 Madeira Wood
Springbank 17 years 2002-2020 Madeira Wood is a gem for enthusiasts of complex and unique whiskies. This edition is special due to its full maturation in Madeira casks, adding a completely new layer of sweetness and spice. The Madeira Wood release captures the essence of Springbank’s iconic maritime character but elevates it with rich, fruity influences and a subtle spiciness from the Madeira wine. This is a whisky meant to be savored slowly, with each sip revealing new nuances and depth.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with a rich aroma of ripe tropical fruits like mango and pineapple, intertwined with hints of orange zest and honey. There are also notes of dried fruits such as raisins and figs, along with a subtle, earthy smoke and a hint of sea breeze, characteristic of Springbank.
Taste
On the palate, this whisky is complex and full-flavored. Sweet notes of candied orange, caramel, and roasted nuts are paired with the spiciness of nutmeg and cinnamon. There’s also a refined, light peat smoke that keeps the flavors well-balanced and provides a layered experience.
Finish
The finish is long and elegant, with a lingering warmth. The sweetness from the Madeira shines through in flavors of toffee and dried fruit, while a light touch of smoke and a hint of saltiness remain, making for a complex and satisfying conclusion.
Springbank distillery
Springbank Distillery is located in Campbeltown, a historic whisky region on Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula. Founded in 1828 by the Mitchell family, it is one of the oldest independent distilleries in Scotland and one of the few remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, once known as the "whisky capital of the world."
Springbank Distillery is unique in its complete control over the production process, with all steps - from malting to bottling - taking place on one site. The distillery produces three different single malt whiskies: Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow.
Springbank whisky is lightly peated and partially triple-distilled, creating a complex and rich flavour profile with notes of fruit, saltiness and a subtle smokiness. Hazelburn is unpeated and triple-distilled, making it a smooth, delicate whisky with light, sweet and malty notes. Longrow is heavily peated and double-distilled, resulting in a robust and smoky whisky with rich, earthy flavours.
The diversity in production methods and flavour profiles makes Springbank Distillery a unique and valued player in the whisky world.
