Tasting note
Nose
Bay leaves, hint of sherry, but not excessively so. Italian spices with mild olive oil. Strange nose, but we actually find it surprising and we mean this positively. Also the alcohol does sting, but also gives structure to the aroma.
Taste
Full-bodied, spicy is the first thing mentioned. Strong cold tea with one small lump of sugar. Chestnut purée and butterscotch. Some forest notes of mushrooms and beechnuts fresh from the forest.
Finish
Mild and quite elegant looking at the aroma and flavour. All in all, a nice addition, because how often do you see an Aberfeldy aged in sherry casks?
Aberfeldy Distillery
Aberfeldy Distillery is located in the picturesque Highlands of Scotland, near the town of Aberfeldy on the banks of the River Tay. Founded in 1896 by John Dewar & Sons, the distillery is a major producer of single malt whisky that is also used in Dewar's well-known blends.
A specific feature of Aberfeldy is the use of water from the Pitilie Burn, a spring known for its purity and richness in minerals. This contributes to the soft and honeyed character of the whisky. Aberfeldy uses traditional copper pot stills and long fermentation times, creating a rich and complex flavour profile.
Aberfeldy whisky is known for its smooth and accessible flavour, with notes of honey, vanilla, spices and a hint of citrus. The whisky is mainly matured in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks, which provides a nice balance and depth. The combination of historic traditions, high-quality ingredients and craftsmanship makes Aberfeldy a beloved name among whisky lovers worldwide.
Signatory Vintage
Signatory Vintage is one of the most respected and recognised independent bottlers in the whisky world. The company was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and is based in Pitlochry, Scotland. Signatory Vintage is known for its impressive collection of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from various Scottish distilleries.
In 2002 Andrew Symington acquired Edradour Distillery, one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland. This has enabled Signatory Vintage to offer exclusive bottlings of Edradour whiskies alongside their regular independent bottlings.
