Tasting note

Nose

A rich aroma of dried fruits such as figs, dates, and raisins, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and a hint of orange zest. Subtle hints of leather and tobacco add extra complexity.

Palate

Full-bodied and powerful, with layers of toffee, caramel, and plum compote. The sherry influence brings depth, with a gentle spiciness of cinnamon and nutmeg. A delicate touch of oak provides balance.

Finish

Long and warming, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, honey, and a hint of salinity. The finish is elegant and lingers beautifully.

Ben Nevis Distillery

Ben Nevis Distillery is located at the foot of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, near Fort William in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1825 by legendary distiller 'Long John' McDonald, the distillery has a rich history and is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland.

This distillery's single malts are known for their robust and characterful flavours with notes of malt, honey, spices and dried fruit. Ben Nevis Distillery remains a respected name in the whisky world, valued for its commitment to tradition and quality, as well as its deep connection to the majestic landscape of the Scottish Highlands.

Ben Nevis Distillery stands at the foot of the mountain of the same name, near Fort William in the western Highlands. The distillery was built in 1825 by John ‘Long John’ MacDonald, who sold his whisky as Long John’s Dew of Ben Nevis. After his death, the business passed to his son Donald P. MacDonald. Growing demand led him to build a second nearby distillery, Nevis Distillery, in 1878. Both remained under MacDonald family control until 1944.

Canadian entrepreneur Joseph Hobbs acquired Ben Nevis in 1944. He sold the second distillery and installed a Coffey still in 1955, making Ben Nevis one of the first Scottish distilleries able to produce malt and grain whisky at the same time. Production stopped in 1978, and Long John International acquired the site in 1981, removing the Coffey still. Distilling briefly resumed before ending again in 1986. Nikka Whisky purchased Ben Nevis in 1989, modernised the plant and restarted production in 1990. The distillery has since combined its historic Highland setting with Japanese ownership and a largely traditional production process.
