Tasting note
Colour
Deep amber-red gold. The rich, warm hue of the whisky in the glass immediately brings to mind the sunset on an autumnal evening.
Nose
The first impression is an inviting scent of sweet, creamy vanilla that slowly unfolds. To this are added subtle hints of ginger, which bring a slight spiciness and warmth. As the whisky breathes, notes of autumn fruits emerge, such as ripe apples, pears and a hint of plums. This combination makes for a complex and seductive aroma that immediately arouses curiosity for the first sip.
Taste
At first touch on the tongue, the whisky reveals its rich, creamy character. The silky texture envelops the mouth and brings out a harmonious blend of flavours. Warm, rich notes of oak form the base, while the sweetness of sherry weaves through. This is enhanced by the presence of sultanas and soft fruits like figs and dates, which give a full and satisfying mouthfeel. The complexity of the whisky comes into its own with each new sip, revealing new layers each time.
Finish
The finish is long, full and firm, a perfect conclusion to the taste experience. A slight nutty tone lingers, adding a nice balance and an extra dimension to the finish. It is a lasting reminder of the rich flavours and careful maturation of this exceptional whisky.
Glendronach Distillery
Glendronach Distillery is located in the valley of Forgue, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, Glendronach is one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland and is known for its rich tradition and craftsmanship.
A specific feature of Glendronach is its strong focus on maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. This gives the whiskies their distinctive deep, complex and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and spices. The distillery uses water from the Dronac Burn, which contributes to its unique flavour.
Glendronach uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and full-bodied spirit. Glendronach's whiskies are known for their elegance and depth, with a long, warming finish.
Glendronach Distillery remains a highly respected name among whisky lovers for its dedication to quality and tradition and its production of exceptionally balanced Highland single malts.
