GlenDronach 24 years Grandeur Batch No 005
The founding of The GlenDronach distillery took place in 1826 in the town of Forgue near Huntly in the Highlands, Scotland. With almost 200 years of experience, The GlenDronach distillery is one of the oldest in the Highlands and a truly traditional distillery that still mainly uses maturation in sherry casks.
True to their tradition, The GlenDronach mainly uses carefully selected sherry casks handcrafted at renowned sherry bodegas from southern Spain (Jerez de la Frontera and Sanlúcar de Barrameda)
Origin and bottling
The whisky bottled as the GlenDronach Grandeur has been specially selected by our master distiller, Billy Walker, from some of our oldest and most unique Oloroso casks of GlenDronach. An extensive selection of casks, hogsheads, puncheons and butts have matured in our traditional warehouses since the 1960s, and it is the most unusual and remarkable casks that have been chosen for this very special bottling. This exquisite expression is a fantastic representation of the smooth, complex and full-bodied style that Glendronach is famous for. Individually hand-numbered, each bottle is unique.
Cask type
Aged for 24 years in the finest Oloroso Sherry Casks.
Tasting notes according to GlenDronach
Appearance
Glistering burnt amber holds a rich crimson heart.
Nose
A magnificent combination of honey-drenched dates and succulent raisins which gently ebb and flow with waves of delicate orange blossom, mint and cracked black pepper. Hints of glazes cherries and toasted almonds perfectly complement the seductive nose. A nose to be appreciated slowly and often.
Palate
A fabulously full-bodied, vibrant palate captures a multitude of classic sherry cask characteristics. The delicate sweetness of rum-soaked golden sultanas refines rich espresso, dark chocolate and treacle toffee. Zesty orange oil softens to a deep clove spice and prolongs the ever changing palate. A sublime example of understanding the relationship between cask and single malt perfectly.
Conclusions
The Grandeur 24 years old encapsulates the perfect harmony of exquisite sherry oak casks, masterful maturation and traditional crafted Highland Single Malt. A dram to be savoured in order to reveal the depth of dramatic flavours held in theglass. A truly memorable and captivating GlenDronach expression.
