Glenglassaugh 11 years 2012 - 2023 'Virgo II'
This Glenglassaugh 11 Years, bottled by the creative independent bottler Scotch Universe, goes by the name Virgo II and is anything but ordinary. After a primary maturation, this single malt received a distinctive finish in a first fill Moscatel wine barrique, resulting in an expressive, fruity and aromatically seductive whisky. Glenglassaugh, located on Scotland’s northern coastline, is known for its fresh style – and here it shines in harmony with the sweet and floral notes of Moscatel dessert wine. A bottling that strikes a fine balance between summery elegance and depth.
Tasting Note
Nose
Enticing and summery with aromas of ripe grapes, blossom honey, apricots and orange flower. In the background, notes of cream caramel and a touch of candied citrus peel.
Palate
Soft and mouth-coating with flavours of white peach, tropical fruits, vanilla and a gentle spiciness of cinnamon. The Moscatel influence adds a floral sweetness without overwhelming.
Finish
Medium in length and elegant, with a fresh hint of citrus, soft oak and a subtle trace of grape skin and spice. Delicate and beautifully balanced.
Glenglassaugh Distillery
Glenglassaugh Distillery is located on the scenic coast of the Moray Firth, near the village of Portsoy in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1875 by Colonel James Moir, Glenglassaugh has a rich history marked by several periods of closure and revival.
A specific feature of Glenglassaugh is the use of pure water from the Glassaugh Burn, which contributes to the fresh and lively character of their whiskies. Glenglassaugh whiskies are known for their fruity and floral notes, often combined with a subtle spiciness and honey.
After a long closure, the distillery was revived in 2008, leading to a revival of their traditional production methods and a focus on quality. The whiskies are matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, making for a complex and balanced taste experience. Glenglassaugh Distillery remains a beloved name among whisky lovers and valued for its dedication to craftsmanship.
