Glengoyne 25 years 2018 Limited Release

No less than 25 years this Glengoyne spent in sherry casks before it was bottled in 2018. Glengoyne is known for its slow distillation and it seems like time has stood still here. Quality before speed and that is clearly reflected in this truly great Single Malt Whisky.

Tasting note

Nose

On opening the bottle, a delicate scent of ripe fruit such as candied orange peel and dried apricots is released, harmoniously blended with sweet honey and vanilla. There are subtle hints of old oak and a hint of tobacco, giving the impression of a refined and elegant bouquet. The sherry character is evident.

Taste

The first sip reveals a rich palette of flavours, starting with a gently sweet, almost syrupy texture of caramelised brown sugar and marzipan. It quickly develops into more complex flavours of spiced oak, nutmeg and a slight bitters of dark chocolate. The subtle influences of sherry-cask maturation emerge with layers of sultanas and a bit of Christmas cake.
 

Finish

The finish is long and warming, with a lingering sweetness that slowly volatilises into a drier, woody and slightly spicy aftertaste. The balanced tannins of the wood provide a satisfying and lingering mouthfeel.

Overall impression

This Glengoyne 25 Years Old is an exceptional example of a well-aged Highland single malt whisky, where time in casks has brought out the complexity and depth of flavour without being overwhelming. 

Glengoyne Distillery

Glengoyne Distillery is located at the foot of the Dumgoyne Hills, just north of Glasgow, on the border of the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands. Founded in 1833, Glengoyne is known for its traditional and artisanal approach to whisky production.
