Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with a rich palette of dried fruits and nuts, complemented by warm, spicy notes of cinnamon and a hint of dark chocolate.
Taste
On the tongue, this whisky leaves a deep impression with a complex flavour of juicy sultanas, caramelised apples and a hint of sherry-infused oak, making for a rich and full-bodied experience.
Finish
The finish is long-lasting and warming, with the saturating flavours of sherry ageing and a subtle smokiness slowly ebbing away, accompanied by a slight spiciness that caresses the tongue.
All this makes the Macduff 16-year-old Exceptional Cask a must-have for lovers of the rich and complex Highland whiskies, with enough depth to leave a lasting impression.
Macduff Distillery
Macduff Distillery is located on the banks of the River Deveron, near the town of Macduff in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Founded in 1962 by a group of local entrepreneurs, the distillery is a relatively young player in the world of Scotch whisky. Despite its young age, Macduff has quickly made a name for itself with its quality single malts.
A unique feature of Macduff Distillery is its use of a modern, innovative approach combined with traditional techniques. The distillery has five stills, of which the so-called lyne arms have a sharp downward angle, contributing to the whisky's light and fruity character. Distillery bottlings are marketed under the name The Deveron and are known for their smooth and accessible flavour profiles.
The whisky is mainly matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, ensuring a nice balance between sweetness and complexity. Macduff whiskies have notes of apple, vanilla, honey and a subtle spiciness. The combination of innovative production and a picturesque location makes Macduff Distillery a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
Signatory Vintage
Signatory Vintage is one of the most respected and recognised independent bottlers in the whisky world. The company was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and is based in Pitlochry, Scotland. Signatory Vintage is known for its impressive collection of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from various Scottish distilleries.
In 2002 Andrew Symington acquired Edradour Distillery, one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland. This has enabled Signatory Vintage to offer exclusive bottlings of Edradour whiskies alongside their regular independent bottlings.
