Arran Quarter Cask
Arran Quarter Cask is a powerful and expressive single malt that adds a unique twist to Arran's characteristic fruity and light profile. A period of maturation in traditional ex-bourbon casks, followed by additional maturation in smaller quarter casks, gives this whisky more contact with the wood. This creates a more intense flavour experience and a rich, deep complexity. Arran Quarter Cask is an exciting whisky that will please fans of the brand and adventurous whisky lovers alike.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose is rich and inviting, with aromas of honey, ripe apple and peach, combined with hints of vanilla, coconut and a touch of citrus. Underneath lies a subtle spiciness of cinnamon and nutmeg, along with a light floral touch.
Taste
At the first sip, you taste the impact of quarter cask maturation. The mouthfeel is full and creamy, with an explosion of flavours. Sweet honey, toffee and butterscotch are nicely balanced by fresh notes of orange peel and green apple. Spicy wood influences - think cinnamon, clove and a slight pepperiness - add depth.
Finish
A subtle nutty touch and a hint of oak provide a long, warming finish. The finish is intense, with a lingering sweetness and a hint of tropical fruit that gently ebbs away.
Arran Distillery
Arran Distillery is located in Lochranza, on the picturesque island of Arran on the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1995 by Harold Currie, a former director of Chivas Brothers, the distillery was the first legal distillery on the island in over 150 years.
A specific feature of Arran Distillery is the purity of its whisky, thanks to the use of water from the nearby Loch na Davie, one of the purest water sources in Scotland. The distillery produces a wide range of single malt whiskies, known for their fruity and creamy character, with notes of apple, pear and vanilla.
Arran uses traditional production methods, including copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, which contributes to the quality and complexity of the whisky. In addition, the whiskies are matured in various cask types, such as bourbon, sherry and wine casks, creating rich and varied flavour profiles. The distillery has built a reputation for craftsmanship and innovation, and remains a favourite destination for whisky lovers worldwide.
