Jura Red Wine Cask Finish
The Jura Red Wine Cask Finish is a remarkable expression within Jura’s Cask Edition series. This whisky starts its maturation in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before receiving a refined finish in carefully selected red wine casks. This imparts a unique fruity depth and subtle complexity to the whisky. The red wine influence brings a wonderful balance of sweetness, spice, and light oaky notes, making it a real treat for lovers of smooth and layered single malts.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Rich aromas of ripe red fruits like strawberries and cherries, combined with hints of vanilla and honey. There are also subtle notes of oak and a gentle spice that enhance the whisky’s complexity.
Taste
The first sip reveals a delightful mix of juicy berries, toffee, and milk chocolate. This is followed by hints of cinnamon, cloves, and a touch of roasted nuts, creating a beautiful balance between sweet and spicy.
Finish
A medium-length, elegant finish with notes of soft oak, a hint of red wine tannins, and a gentle spicy warmth. The fruity undertones linger pleasantly, making this whisky an invitation for another sip.
Jura Distillery
Jura Distillery is located on the island of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland, known for its rugged beauty and remote location. Founded in 1810, the distillery has a rich history of whisky production, but was closed in the early 20th century. In 1963, Jura Distillery was reopened by local entrepreneurs Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith, bringing new life to the island community.
A specific feature of Jura Distillery is the use of both non-peated and lightly-peated barley, resulting in a wide range of flavour profiles. The distillery produces whiskies that range from light and fruity to rich and smoky. The whisky is mainly matured in American oak bourbon casks, with occasional use of sherry and wine casks for added complexity.
Jura whiskies are known for their smooth and approachable character, with distinctive notes of citrus, honey, spices and a subtle smoke. The unique combination of traditional methods and innovative maturation techniques makes Jura a beloved name in the world of Scotch whisky.
