Lagg Corriecravie
Lagg Corriecravie is a promising expression from Lagg Distillery, which is fully dedicated to creating distinctively peated whiskies. This release is named after the picturesque village of Corriecravie on the Isle of Arran, where rugged nature and breathtaking scenery characterise the island. With its rich peat smoke and complex layers, this whisky is an adventurous dram that captures the soul of the island. Corriecravie reflects Lagg's commitment to innovation and quality, offering a unique take on the world of peat-driven whiskies.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with a powerful wave of peat smoke, but is soon enriched by notes of smoked meat, charcoal and a briny maritime freshness. Underneath, you will discover subtle hints of dark honey, ripe apricots and a hint of lemongrass, which balances the aroma beautifully.
Taste
The first sip is an impressive flavour journey. Peat smoke immediately fills the palette, intense and layered, with accents of ash and campfire. Behind it, surprisingly bright notes of citrus, green apple and white pepper unfold. The barrel influence brings out a sweetness of caramel, butterscotch and a hint of clove, while a slightly oily texture provides a silky smooth mouthfeel.
Finish
The finish is long, smoky and warming, with a subtle spicy sharpness and a hint of briny mineral freshness.
Lagg Distillery
Lagg Distillery is located on the southern tip of the Isle of Arran, on the west coast of Scotland. Opened in 2019, Lagg Distillery is a modern addition to the island's rich whisky tradition. It is the second distillery of Isle of Arran Distillers, which also operates the well-known Arran Distillery in Lochranza.
A specific feature of Lagg Distillery is its focus on heavily peated whiskies, offering a contrast to the lighter style of the original Arran whiskies. The distillery uses locally sourced peat and traditional copper pot stills to create a deep, smoky flavour.
Lagg whisky is matured in a mix of American oak bourbon casks and European sherry casks, creating a rich and complex flavour. Lagg whiskies are known for their robust character, with pronounced notes of smoke, earthy influences and subtle hints of fruit and spices.
The combination of traditional techniques and a modern approach makes Lagg Distillery an exciting new player in the Scotch whisky world.
