Talisker Port Ruighe
Talisker Port Ruighe (pronounced ‘Portree’) is a unique expression of the iconic Talisker distillery, inspired by its Scottish heritage and rich trading history with the Portuguese port city of Porto. By finishing the whisky in port casks, Talisker has created a dram that perfectly blends their signature sea salt and peppery smoke with sweet, fruity notes. The result is a whisky that captures both the ruggedness of the Skye coast and a warm, deep red fruitiness - an exciting combination that invites you to discover new flavours.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose offers an intriguing combination of sea salt and sweet notes. The typical Talisker smoke is present, but softer than the classic expressions, making room for fruity aromas of ripe berries and plums. Further on, hints of chocolate and a subtle spiciness emerge, with a touch of black pepper giving the nose a lively edge.
Taste
The first sip opens with a gentle smokiness, which is quickly followed by a velvety sweetness of dark fruits such as sultanas and cherries. The port influences add a slight jammy sweetness that balances beautifully with the distinctive Talisker spiciness. As the whisky develops on the tongue, hints of dark chocolate, caramel and a hint of oak emerge, making for a complex and rich taste experience.
Finish
The finish is long and warming, with a lovely balance between sweet and salty. The smoky and peppery notes linger subtly, along with a hint of fruity sweetness that slowly fades. This robust finish ensures that you can enjoy this special dram for a long time to come.
Talisker Distillery
Talisker Distillery is located on the beautiful shoreline of Loch Harport on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Founded in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, Talisker is the oldest operating distillery on Skye and has a rich history of producing characterful whiskies.
A specific feature of Talisker is the use of traditional pot stills and worm tubs, which contributes to the whisky's complex and robust flavour profile. The distillery is known for its powerful, peaty and maritime character, with pronounced notes of sea salt, smoke and black pepper. This unique flavour is further enhanced by maturation in American oak bourbon casks and European sherry casks, which adds depth and complexity to the whisky.
Talisker whiskies are praised for their deep, rich flavours and ability to capture the rugged, wild essence of Skye. The combination of traditional production methods, a unique location and a distinctive flavour profile makes Talisker an iconic name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
