Ledaig 14 years Original Collection
Ledaig, the peated expression from the Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull, is known for its bold, smoky character with maritime influences. This 14-year-old edition, bottled by the renowned independent bottler Cadenhead, has matured in bourbon casks and is bottled at a pleasant 46%. The combination of peat, vanilla, and subtle spices makes this an excellent choice for those who appreciate a refined, balanced smoke profile.
Tasting Notes
Nose
A delightful mix of peat smoke and coastal sea air sets the stage. This is followed by notes of ripe citrus, green apples, and toasted almonds. Sweet vanilla and a touch of honey create a well-rounded balance.
Palate
The first sip reveals a full, smoky profile with a creamy texture. The bourbon maturation brings out notes of caramel and butterscotch, while the peat blends with light spices, roasted nuts, and a hint of white pepper.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering smoke and a touch of licorice. A soft, creamy sweetness lingers, accompanied by gentle oak influences and a maritime freshness.
Tobermory Distillery
Tobermory Distillery is located on the picturesque harbour of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, on the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1798, it is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and has a rich history with periods of closure and re-opening.
A specific feature of Tobermory Distillery is the production of two different types of whisky: the non-peated Tobermory and the heavily peated Ledaig.
Tobermory whisky is known for its fruity and floral character with notes of citrus and honey, while Ledaig whisky is characterised by its robust, smoky flavour with hints of pepper, sea salt and leather. Maturation takes place in a combination mix of bourbon and sherry casks, creating a rich and complex flavour.
The combination of an idyllic location, a long and rich history, and a diverse range of whiskies makes Tobermory Distillery a respected and beloved name in the world of Scotch whisky.
