Bowmore Distillery, established in 1779, is the oldest working distillery on the island of Islay and one of the oldest in the Scotland.
It was purchased by Stanley P. Morrison Ltd. in the late autumn of 1963. The first distillate of 1964 was filled into Oloroso Sherry Casks of exceptional quality and laid to mature deep in the distillery vaults below sea level.
Breathing deep through sherry seasoned oak for three decades of silent, undisturbed maturation.
The spirit has become imbued with an aroma and palate of remarkable complexity.
During its peaceful maturation, time has rewarded the spirit with a hue so rich and dark that is has been affectionately named BLACK BOWMORE.
It was the proprietor's intention to release 2.000 bottles of this exceptional example of Bowmore Islay Malt Whisky in 1995.
However, the 'angels' have already taken their share of this unique malt and it is only possible to produce 1812 bottles as a 'FINAL EDITION'.
Each one is individually numbered and signed by the then distillery manager.
