This 23-year-old Bunnahabhain, distilled in 1998 and bottled by Adelphi, showcases the elegance and complexity that long-aged Islay whisky can offer. Known for its unpeated style, Bunnahabhain expresses a different side of the island, and this single cask bottling is no exception. Rich in color and bottled at a robust 53.5%, it delivers both power and grace. Adelphi’s selection guarantees exceptional quality, and this release lives up to that promise in every drop.

Long and warming with lingering impressions of mocha, leather and a whisper of sea salt.

Bunnahabhain Distillery

Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the remote north coast of the island of Islay, at the mouth of the river Margadale. Founded in 1881 by the Islay Distillery Company, Bunnahabhain stands out for its unique approach to whisky production on this island known for its peat-smoked whiskies.

A specific feature of Bunnahabhain is that it produces mainly unpeated whiskies, unlike most other Islay distilleries. This results in a smooth, complex whisky with subtle maritime influences. Bunnahabhain whiskies are known for their elegant flavour profile, with notes of fruit, nuts and a slight saltiness.

The peated Bunnahabhain single malts are marketed under names such as Toiteach A Dhà, Staoisha, Moine and are also very well received among aficionados.

The distillery uses water from the Margadale Spring and matures its whiskies in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, creating rich and versatile aromas. Bunnahabhain whiskies are often described as smooth and approachable, with a distinctive refinement.

With a strong emphasis on traditional production methods and a commitment to quality, Bunnahabhain remains a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.

Adelphi Distillery Limited

Adelphi Distillery Limited is an independent bottler of mainly Scotch Single Malt whiskies, known for its high quality and limited editions. Besides Scotch whisky, they sometimes make forays into other whisky countries, but rum and armagnac can also be found in Adelphi Distillery Limited's portfolio. The company has a rich history dating back to the 19th century and is today a respected name in the whisky world.

History and Origins

  • Establishment: The original Adelphi Distillery was founded in 1826 in the Gorbals, a district in Glasgow, Scotland. The distillery produced a wide range of whiskies, both single malts and grain whiskies.
  • Closure and revival: The original distillery closed in the early 20th century. In the 1990s, the Adelphi name was revived by Jamie Walker, a descendant of the original owners. Since then, Adelphi has focused on bottling high-quality, rare spirits.

Bunnahabhain Distillery

Bunnahabhain Distillery stands in a remote position on Islay’s north-eastern coast, overlooking the Sound of Islay towards the Isle of Jura. The distillery was established in 1881 by blender William Robertson and the brothers William and James Greenlees. A small village was built alongside it, providing homes and essential facilities for the workers and their families. Production officially began in 1883. Because of its isolated location, Bunnahabhain could only be reached by boat for many years; a road to the distillery was not completed until 1960.

Bunnahabhain is distinctly different from many other Islay distilleries. Its house style is predominantly unpeated, built around a robust and oily spirit with fruit, nuts, spice and a subtle maritime character. The water comes from the Margadale spring north of the distillery. Tall, pear-shaped stills with long swan necks help create a relatively light and refined spirit that works particularly well with maturation in sherry casks. Bunnahabhain also produces peated whisky, but is best known for rich, sherry-led Islay single malt without dominant smoke.

Adelphi Distillery Limited

Adelphi Distillery Limited ranks among Scotland’s most respected independent whisky bottlers. Its name reaches back to the original Adelphi Distillery, built in Glasgow beside the River Clyde by brothers Charles and David Gray in 1826. After a period under Archibald Walker & Co, production eventually came to an end. In 1993, Jamie Walker, a great-grandson of Archibald Walker, revived the Adelphi name as an independent bottler.

Adelphi is renowned for its exceptionally strict cask selection. Only a small proportion of the casks assessed are considered worthy of bottling, with character, balance, maturation and provenance taking priority. The range consists mainly of rare single cask whiskies and small-batch limited editions sourced from a variety of Scottish distilleries. Each Adelphi bottling therefore offers an individual snapshot of a distillery, a cask and its maturation.

Adelphi gained new owners in 2004 and returned to distilling in 2014 with the opening of Ardnamurchan Distillery in the western Highlands. In doing so, the company connects almost two centuries of whisky history with a modern and uncompromising approach to quality.
