Glasgow Distillery

Glasgow Distillery is located in southwest Glasgow, Scotland, near the historic River Clyde. Founded in 2014, it was the first independent single malt distillery to open in the city in more than 100 years. The name pays homage to the original Glasgow Distillery Company, which operated in the 18th century.

A specific feature of Glasgow Distillery is its innovative approach to whisky production. The distillery has three traditional copper pot stills and produces a wide range of whiskies, including single malt and blended whiskies. In addition, Glasgow Distillery also produces gin, rum and vodka, highlighting its diversity and craftsmanship.

Glasgow Distillery's whiskies are matured in a variety of cask types, including bourbon, sherry and wine casks, creating rich and complex flavour profiles. Known for their bold and modern approach, Glasgow Distillery remains a pioneer in the Scotch whisky industry.

Glasgow Distillery

Glasgow Distillery is based in Hillington on the western side of Glasgow. The company was founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, who wanted to return independent single malt production to the city after an absence of more than a century. Its name refers to an earlier Glasgow Distillery, founded at Dundashill in 1770 and closed in 1902; the present business is not a direct continuation, but a modern revival of Glasgow’s urban whisky tradition. Gin production began in 2014, and the first whisky cask was filled on 5 March 2015. The inaugural Glasgow 1770 Single Malt followed in 2018.

The distillery is distinguished by producing three separate styles of new make spirit: double-distilled and unpeated, double-distilled and peated, and unpeated spirit made through triple distillation. This creates diversity during distillation itself rather than relying solely on cask selection. Capacity doubled in 2019 with the addition of a second pair of copper stills. An on-site cask warehouse and cooperage followed in 2024, giving the team greater control over maturation, cask selection and maintenance at the distillery.
