Inverleven 36 years 1973 - 2010 Deoch an Doras
The Inverleven 36 Years 1973 - 2010 Deoch an Doras is a rare and exceptional single malt whisky from the now-closed Inverleven Distillery. Situated on the Dumbarton distillery site, Inverleven ceased operations in 1991, making this expression a heartfelt tribute to a bygone era of Scottish whisky-making. "Deoch an Doras," Gaelic for "the final drink," highlights the unique opportunity to savor a piece of history. With an impressive 36 years of maturation, this whisky delivers unmatched complexity and elegance.
Tasting note
Nose
A delicate aroma of honey, ripe peaches, and vanilla, with subtle hints of dried grass, lemon zest, and a touch of white flowers. A gentle oak note adds depth.
Palate
Silky and full-bodied, with layers of toffee, candied citrus, and a mild spiciness of cinnamon and ginger. Fruity notes of apricot and pear are beautifully balanced with creamy vanilla and a hint of hazelnut.
Finish
Long and refined, with lingering sweetness of honey, gentle spices, and a delicate touch of oak. The elegance and balance make this whisky unforgettable.
Inverleven Distillery
Inverleven Distillery was located in Dumbarton, on the banks of the River Leven in the Scottish Lowlands. Founded in 1938 by Hiram Walker & Sons, Inverleven was part of the larger Dumbarton distillery, mainly focused on producing components for blended whiskies.
A specific feature of Inverleven was the use of both traditional pot stills and a Lomond still, an innovative still designed by Alistair Cunningham in 1956. The Lomond still offered flexibility in production, allowing different styles of whisky to be produced. Inverleven was known for its light and fruity single malt whisky, with notes of citrus, green apple and flowers.
Although the distillery closed in 1991 and was later demolished, Inverleven's legacy lives on in the remaining whiskies that are still highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts. Inverleven's Lomond still was reused at Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, marking a lasting influence of Inverleven in the whisky world.
