Rosebank Distillery stands beside the Forth & Clyde Canal in Falkirk, between Glasgow and Edinburgh. It was officially established in 1840 by James Rankine, although whisky had previously been produced in the surrounding area. Under the Rankine family, Rosebank developed into a leading Lowland distillery. Rosebank Distillery Ltd was formed in 1894, and in 1914 the business joined Scottish Malt Distillers, later part of the Distillers Company Limited. Despite its reputation, Rosebank closed in 1993 during a restructuring of the Scotch whisky industry.

In 2017, independent family-owned Ian Macleod Distillers acquired both the Rosebank name and its historic site. Following an extensive restoration, spirit flowed from the stills again on 18 July 2023. Rosebank is distinguished by the rare combination of triple distillation and traditional worm tub condensers. Three copper stills were recreated from historic drawings for the revival. The old mill, Victorian brick buildings and landmark chimney were also retained. The project therefore restored not only the name, but also the production method that made Rosebank exceptional among Lowland distilleries.

Speciality Drinks is a British drinks company with roots in The Whisky Exchange, founded in 1999 by brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh. Building on their background in the London drinks trade, they developed a separate activity alongside the retail business for selecting and bottling distinctive whiskies and other spirits. Speciality Drinks Limited was formally incorporated in 2002.

That same year, Sukhinder Singh bottled his first whisky cask. This led to The Single Malts of Scotland, a range of carefully selected single casks and small batches from distilleries across Scotland. Elements of Islay and Port Askaig followed later, presenting different interpretations of Islay whisky.

Until 2017, independent bottlings were regularly released under the Speciality Drinks name. The bottling division was then renamed Elixir Distillers. Speciality Drinks continues as the wider company behind The Whisky Exchange, its trade business and Whisky.Auction. Bottles carrying the Speciality Drinks name therefore represent a recognisable part of the company’s earlier independent bottling history.
