This 12-year-old Secret Speyside from The Maltman (part of Meadowside Blending) is a fascinating single malt whisky that embodies the richness and diversity of the Speyside region. Although the specific distillery remains a mystery (some say Macallan...), this whisky offers an excellent example of a classic Speyside single malt, with a nice balance of sweetness, fruitiness and wood influences. This single cask release is a great choice for whisky connoisseurs who enjoy discovering unique and limited bottlings.
Tasting note
Nose
Typical of a Speyside whisky, the nose offers aromas of sweet barley, honey and vanilla. Fruity notes are also present, such as apple, pear and even a hint of citrus. Furthermore, subtle woody and spicy undertones, as well as hints of butterscotch or caramel and coffee.
Taste
On the palate, a smooth and balanced whisky with sweet, fruity notes, such as stewed apples or pears, complemented by hints of honey and vanilla. There is also a slightly spicy touch, such as cinnamon or nutmeg, along with a creamy texture. The barrel influence adds depth, in the form of notes of oak or a slight nuttiness.
Finish
The finish is fairly long and pleasant, with lingering sweetness with hints of wood and spice that slowly fade away.
