Ardmore 7 years 2016 - 2024 #1051

"We’re pretty excited about this one because it’s not so often we get our hands on a distillate-led Ardmore!

Bottled at a spritely 7 years old and packing a punch at 61.1% ABV, this refill Oloroso sherry butt certainly proves that age and bold cask influence are not required to yield tremendous whisky. Captivating earthy notes of wet hessian sack, rusty metal, extra mature crumbly cheddar, and damp old bothy floor mix with a touch of tart unripe blackberry and griddled meat.

Pronounced minerality on the mouthfeel and such unique characteristics on the palate make this a perfect whisky for the whisky geek looking for something unusual and moreish. Don’t wait long on this incredible seven-year-old Highlander!"

Ardmore Distillery

Ardmore Distillery is located in the Eastern Highlands of Scotland, near the village of Kennethmont in Aberdeenshire. Founded in 1898 by Adam Teacher, son of whisky pioneer William Teacher, Ardmore has a rich history of whisky production. The distillery was originally built to support the growing demand for Teachers Highland Cream blended whisky.

A unique feature of Ardmore is its use of traditionally peated barley, resulting in a smoky single malt, a rarity in the Highland region. This gives Ardmore whiskies a distinct and robust flavour profile with notes of smoke, honey, vanilla and spices. The distillery gets its water from natural springs in the surrounding hills, which contributes to the purity of their whiskies.

Ardmore whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which provides a nice balance between sweetness and smokiness. Besides their peated expressions, Ardmore also produces unpeated whiskies that show a lighter, fruitier side.

The combination of a beautiful location, historical traditions and unique flavour profiles makes Ardmore a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.

Adelphi Distillery Limited

Adelphi Distillery Limited is an independent bottler of mainly Scotch Single Malt whiskies, known for its high quality and limited editions. Besides Scotch whisky, they sometimes make forays into other whisky countries, but rum and armagnac can also be found in Adelphi Distillery Limited's portfolio. The company has a rich history dating back to the 19th century and is today a respected name in the whisky world.

History and Origins

  • Establishment: The original Adelphi Distillery was founded in 1826 in the Gorbals, a district in Glasgow, Scotland. The distillery produced a wide range of whiskies, both single malts and grain whiskies.
  • Closure and revival: The original distillery closed in the early 20th century. In the 1990s, the Adelphi name was revived by Jamie Walker, a descendant of the original owners. Since then, Adelphi has focused on bottling high-quality, rare spirits.
