A perfect entry-level whisky for those new to single malts, but also a rewarding choice for seasoned fans who appreciate finesse and balance.
Tasting notes
Nose
Gentle aromas of stewed apples, honey, and vanilla, complemented by hints of toffee and light spices. A subtle floral undertone adds elegance and warmth.
Palate
Round and creamy on the palate, with flavours of ripe pear, cinnamon, caramel, and a touch of dark chocolate. The toasted oak brings structure and a warm, mildly spicy background.
Finish
Medium in length, with notes of honey, vanilla, and a soft, spicy aftertaste. A smooth and refined finish that invites another sip.
Cardhu Distillery
Cardhu Distillery is located in the heart of the Speyside region, near the village of Knockando in Moray. Founded in 1824 by John and Helen Cumming, Cardhu has a rich history and is known as one of the few distilleries co-founded and run by a woman. Helen Cumming played a crucial role in the distillery's early years.
A unique feature of Cardhu is the use of pure spring water from the nearby Mannoch Hills, which contributes to the purity and quality of their whiskies. Cardhu whiskies are known for their smooth and accessible flavour profiles, with notes of honey, apple, vanilla and a subtle hint of spiciness. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and balanced spirit.
The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, creating a deep and complex flavour. Cardhu is a key component in the famous Johnnie Walker blended whiskies, but their single malts are loved for their refinement and balance. The combination of historic traditions, high-quality production and a beautiful location makes Cardhu a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
