Craigellachie 16 years 2009 - 2025 #207 Cask Strength Collection
Craigellachie is known for its robust and oily style, often with a slight sulfuric note and distinctive fruitiness. This 16-year-old expression, distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2025, has matured in a first-fill Madeira hogshead, creating a unique combination of tropical fruit notes, spice, and rich sweetness. Bottled at an impressive cask strength of 55.7% ABV, this whisky delivers a powerful and layered tasting experience. Non-chill filtered and with no added color, preserving its pure character.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Aromas of tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, combined with honey, vanilla, and caramel. A subtle hint of roasted hazelnuts and spicy ginger adds depth.
Palate
Full-bodied and rich with notes of ripe peach, dried apricot, and orange zest. The influence of the Madeira cask adds a slight syrupy texture, with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasted oak.
Finish
Long and warming with lingering notes of dried fruit, light toffee, and a touch of spicy pepper. A soft, slightly sweet wine-like touch lingers pleasantly.
Craigellachie Distillery
Craigellachie Distillery is located in the village of the same name in the Speyside region, on the banks of the River Spey in Scotland. Founded in 1891 by Peter Mackie and Alexander Edward, Craigellachie has a rich history and is known for its robust and characterful single malt whiskies.
A unique feature of Craigellachie is the use of worm tubs, a traditional cooling system that contributes to the full and complex flavour profile of their whiskies. The distillery uses pure spring water from nearby Blue Hill, which adds to the clarity and purity of their whiskies. Craigellachie whiskies are known for their firm, full-bodied character with notes of citrus, tropical fruits and a subtle spiciness.
The whisky is mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensures a balanced and deep flavour. Craigellachie produces whiskies that are appreciated both in blends and single malts. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques and a unique flavour profile makes Craigellachie a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
