Nose

Full and inviting with raisins, dried figs and ripe dark fruit. Chocolate, roasted nuts and malty notes follow, complemented by orange peel, caramel and warming baking spices.

Palate

Rich and beautifully rounded with spiced fruit cake, raisins and figs, followed by honey, toffee and creamy malt. Dark chocolate, orange and roasted nuts add further depth, while cinnamon and gentle oak spices provide just enough balance.

Finish

Long and warming with stewed fruit, chocolate and roasted nuts. Orange, gentle spices and a lightly drying touch of Oloroso sherry linger pleasantly.

Glenrothes was founded in 1878 in the Speyside town of Rothes. Construction began under the direction of James Stuart & Co., but following financial difficulties the distillery was completed by the firm William Grant & Co. The first spirit flowed from the stills on 28 December 1879. Despite fires and an explosion during its early years, Glenrothes developed into an important supplier of malt whisky for blended Scotch.

The distillery played a central role in blends such as Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse for many years. As a single malt, Glenrothes therefore remained relatively unknown. This changed when releases under its own name became recognised for their vintage statements, placing the character of individual distillation years at the centre. Since 2017, the brand and distillery have once again been united within Edrington.

The slowly distilled Glenrothes spirit is elegant, fruity and spicy. Maturation in carefully selected sherry-seasoned oak casks adds notes of ripe fruit, vanilla, citrus, sweet spice and refined oak. This combination of freshness and depth makes Glenrothes highly regarded by both blenders and single malt enthusiasts.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished wine and spirits merchants. Its history began in 1698, when the Widow Bourne opened a grocery shop on St James’s Street in London. During the nineteenth century, the company increasingly focused on wine and spirits, while the Berry name became permanently associated with the business. The Rudd family joined in the twentieth century.

Berry Bros. & Rudd also has an exceptionally long heritage in whisky. Its oldest known own-label cask bottling dates from 1853, making the company one of Britain’s oldest independent bottlers. In 1923, Francis Berry and Hugh Rudd also created Cutty Sark, a lighter blended Scotch that achieved considerable international success.
