Linkwood 10 years 2012 - 2023 #201+203
Linkwood distillery, a relatively unknown powerhouse in the world of Single Malt Whisky. Founded in 1821 by Peter Brown, but only went into production four years later. Actually, this distillery has been producing under the radar for a lot of blended whiskies for about 200 years. The vast majority of production is used for Johnnie Walker and White Horse, blended whiskies with a large fan base.
This Linkwood was distilled in 2012 and bottled early this year at 46% alcohol. Two First Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts were used to give this whisky a post-ripening. This also gives this Single Malt its firm character. Linkwood is already among the mild yet powerful Speyside distilleries and the finish on these Oloroso Sherry casks further enhances this.
Tasting note:
Colour: Amber
Nose: Old-fashioned sherry-aged Linkwood. Think chestnut purée, figs, peanut butter, metallic polish, dark nougat. Turkish delight.
Flavour: Real Old-skool full flavour. Tobacco leaves, smoked paprika, peppers, walnuts and some copper polish.
Finish: Something more usual for cognac, but a hint of rancio I think I can detect, alongside the malaga wine and fig/nut bread
Linkwood Distillery
Linkwood Distillery is located in the Speyside region, near Elgin in Moray. Founded in 1821 by Peter Brown, Linkwood has a long and rich history of producing high-quality whiskies. The distillery is known for its traditional production methods and focus on quality.
A unique feature of Linkwood is the use of old oak washbacks, which contribute to the complex flavour profiles of their whiskies. The distillery draws its water from the Millbuies Springs, which contributes to the purity of their products. Linkwood whiskies are known for their elegant and delicate flavour profiles, with notes of flowers, fruit, vanilla and a subtle hint of spice.
The whiskies are mainly matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, making for a rich and layered flavour experience. Linkwood produces single malts as well as whiskies for blends, such as Johnnie Walker and White Horse. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques and high-quality production makes Linkwood a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
Signatory Vintage
Signatory Vintage is one of the most respected and recognised independent bottlers in the whisky world. The company was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and is based in Pitlochry, Scotland. Signatory Vintage is known for its impressive collection of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from various Scottish distilleries.
In 2002 Andrew Symington acquired Edradour Distillery, one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland. This has enabled Signatory Vintage to offer exclusive bottlings of Edradour whiskies alongside their regular independent bottlings.
