This 17-year-old single malt, bottled by Van Wees in the Ultimate series, has been fully matured in a sherry butt. The extended aging in this cask type has imparted deep fruity and spicy notes, perfectly balanced with Longmorn’s natural sweetness. Bottled at cask strength, this expression offers a powerful yet refined whisky experience.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Rich notes of dried fruits such as raisins, figs, and plums, combined with a subtle hint of orange zest and toasted nuts. The sherry influence brings deep aromas of caramel, dark chocolate, and a touch of leather, while light spicy accents of cinnamon and nutmeg add further complexity.
Palate
Full-bodied and creamy, striking a perfect balance between sweet and spicy tones. Flavors of sherry-soaked raisins, caramel, and milk chocolate blend harmoniously with hints of spiced oak, mocha, and roasted almonds. The texture is rich and oily, enhancing the whisky’s depth and intensity.
Finish
Long and warming, with a lingering sweetness of dried fruits and dark honey. The oak influence remains subtle yet present, while notes of clove, tobacco, and a touch of pure cocoa gradually fade, leaving an elegant final impression.
Longmorn 17 years 1996 - 2014 is an outstanding sherry-aged whisky with a refined balance of power and elegance.
Longmorn Distillery
Longmorn Distillery is located in the Speyside region, south of Elgin in Moray. Founded in 1894 by John Duff, Longmorn has a rich history and is known for its consistent production of high-quality whiskies. The distillery is located in a picturesque part of Speyside.
A unique feature of Longmorn is the use of traditional copper pot stills, which contribute to the rich and full flavour profiles of their whiskies. The distillery draws its water from the nearby Bardon Burn, which provides a pure and clear base for their whisky. Longmorn whiskies are known for their fruity and spicy flavour profiles, with notes of apple, pear, honey and a hint of spiciness.
The whiskies are mainly matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, which ensures a balanced and complex flavour. Longmorn produces single malts as well as whiskies used in blends, such as Chivas Regal. The combination of an idyllic location, traditional techniques and high-quality production makes Longmorn a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
