Macallan Classic Cut 2023 Edition

In the heart of Speyside on the banks of the rvier de Spey lies The Macallan Distillery since 1824. Macallan is among the classic distilleries with a penchant for maturation in Sherry casks. Macallan's stills are remarkably small which makes for a relatively heavy new spirit. A new distillery was built in 1966 and, next to this 'new' distillery, the current distillery with visitor centre was opened in 2018. Unique of its kind in Scotland. The boiler house includes 24 wash stills and 12 spirit stills. This has put the old distillery in mothballs.

Origin and bottling

Since 2017, Macallan has been marketing the Classic Cut. This expression is available on a limited basis every year and there is a large fan base for this extraordinary Macallan.

Cask type

This exceptional single malt has matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon American oak and sherry-aged European oak casks.

Macallan Distillery

Macallan Distillery is located in the beautiful Speyside region, near Craigellachie in Moray. Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, Macallan has developed into one of the most prestigious names in the world of Scotch whisky. The distillery is located on a picturesque 390-acre estate, overlooking the River Spey.

A unique feature of Macallan is its use of exceptional quality oak casks for maturation, including ex-sherry casks of European and American oak. These casks give Macallan whiskies their characteristic rich, full flavour profiles with notes of dried fruit, herbs, chocolate, vanilla and a spice. Macallan is also known for its wide range of limited editions, appreciated by enthusiasts worldwide.

The distillery opened a state-of-the-art production facility in 2018, combining modern techniques with traditional craftsmanship. The combination of a beautiful location, high-quality casks and a commitment to quality makes Macallan a leading name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
