Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with a beautiful combination of ripe red fruits, such as juicy cherries, raspberries and redcurrants, surrounded by a warm sweetness of vanilla and caramel. The influence of the sherry casks emerges in aromas of sultanas, figs and dark chocolate, while subtle hints of orange peel and oak are present in the background. As the whisky opens up further, light spicy accents of cinnamon and nutmeg also emerge, giving the scent a warm, inviting depth.
Taste
The first sip reveals a full, rich texture that envelops the palate with layers of sweet and spicy. Flavours of dried fruits like plums and sultanas combine beautifully with deep notes of caramel and butterscotch. There is also a soft, silky hint of milk chocolate, which comes together with a light touch of toasted almonds and walnuts, making for a complex and refined taste experience. The sherry influence remains dominant, but balanced with oak undertones and a subtle spiciness of cinnamon and cloves. As the whisky develops, notes of black cherries and a hint of ginger emerge.
Finish
The finish is long, rich and persistent. It begins with sweet sherry notes that slowly fade and give way to notes of toasted oak and a light, pleasant bitterness of dark chocolate. A subtle saltiness and a hint of orange peel add a fresh twist, while the spicy influences linger softly, with a warm glow of cinnamon and a hint of vanilla.
Macallan Distillery
Macallan Distillery is located in the beautiful Speyside region, near Craigellachie in Moray. Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, Macallan has developed into one of the most prestigious names in the world of Scotch whisky. The distillery is located on a picturesque 390-acre estate, overlooking the River Spey.
A unique feature of Macallan is its use of exceptional quality oak casks for maturation, including ex-sherry casks of European and American oak. These casks give Macallan whiskies their characteristic rich, full flavour profiles with notes of dried fruit, herbs, chocolate, vanilla and a spice. Macallan is also known for its wide range of limited editions, appreciated by enthusiasts worldwide.
The distillery opened a state-of-the-art production facility in 2018, combining modern techniques with traditional craftsmanship. The combination of a beautiful location, high-quality casks and a commitment to quality makes Macallan a leading name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
