Tasting note
Nose
The first impressions are bright and fresh, with notes of green apple and pear. Underneath, hints of vanilla, honey, and a touch of marzipan unfold. As the whisky breathes, spices such as white pepper and a subtle nutmeg emerge. There is also a light floral note, almost like fresh spring flowers, which elegantly rounds off the profile.
Taste
Full and powerful due to the high alcohol content (100 proof, or 57.1%). The sweetness of honey and vanilla is quickly followed by dried fruits like apricot and raisin. On the mid-palate, spicy influences come through, with pepper, oak, and a subtle hint of ginger. Despite its intensity, the whisky remains balanced, with the fruity and spicy notes complementing each other well.
Finish
Long and warming, with a lingering spicy note of pepper and ginger. Towards the end, a soft bitterness of cocoa and oak develops, making the finish slightly dry but pleasantly so.
Miltonduff Distillery
Miltonduff Distillery is located in the Speyside region, near Elgin in Moray. Founded in 1824, Miltonduff has a rich history of producing high-quality whiskies. Built on the site of an old mill, the distillery uses water from the Black Burn, which contributes to the purity and quality of their whiskies.
Miltonduff whiskies are known for their smooth and elegant character, with notes of honey, apple, pear, and a subtle spiciness.
Miltonduff plays an important role in the production of blended whiskies, particularly Ballantine's, but also offers excellent single malt expressions. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensures a balanced and refined flavour.
Signatory Vintage
Signatory Vintage is one of the most respected and recognised independent bottlers in the whisky world. The company was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and is based in Pitlochry, Scotland. Signatory Vintage is known for its impressive collection of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from various Scottish distilleries.
In 2002 Andrew Symington acquired Edradour Distillery, one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland. This has enabled Signatory Vintage to offer exclusive bottlings of Edradour whiskies alongside their regular independent bottlings.
