Distilled in 1995 and bottled in 2022, it matured in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Tasting Notes

Nose

Inviting aromas of dried fruits, raisins, and figs are joined by orange zest, nut oil, and soft oak. Hints of milk chocolate and cinnamon add depth and warmth.

Palate

Silky and rich with flavours of toffee, stewed apples, and juicy plums. The PX casks bring a lush sweetness, while the Oloroso adds layers of spice and nuttiness.

Finish

Long and elegant with lingering notes of raisin bread, a touch of clove, and a velvety sherry-soaked farewell.

Tormore Distillery

Tormore Distillery is located in the picturesque Speyside region of Scotland, near the village of Grantown-on-Spey. Founded in 1958, Tormore is one of the younger distilleries in the region, but it has quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality whiskies. The distillery was designed by renowned architect Sir Albert Richardson, resulting in a striking and elegant building that stands out in the landscape.

A unique feature of Tormore is the use of water from the nearby Achvochkie Burn, which contributes to the purity and quality of their whiskies. Tormore whiskies are known for their fruity and floral flavour profiles, with notes of apple, pear, honey and subtle spices.

The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensures a balanced and refined flavour. Tormore produces single malts as well as whiskies used in high-end blends, such as Ballantine's. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques and a commitment to quality makes Tormore a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.

Murray McDavid

Murray McDavid is an independent Scottish bottler founded in 1994 by Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Gordon Wright. The company is known for its innovative approach to whisky, focusing on selecting high-quality casks and experimenting with unique maturation processes.

Murray McDavid bottles whisky from different distilleries, both single malts and blended malts, and often introduces secondary maturities in different types of casks, such as wine, rum or sherry casks, to create complex flavour profiles. They have several series such as "Mission Gold," "Benchmark," and "Cask Craft."

An important aspect of Murray McDavid is their focus on transparency. They provide detailed information about the origin of the whisky, the casks used and the ageing time, which makes them popular among connoisseurs and collectors. In 2013, Murray McDavid was acquired by Aceo Ltd, which expanded their ability to continue producing unique whiskies. Murray McDavid's bottlings are often praised for their quality and the creative way they combine traditional whisky techniques with modern innovations.

Tormore Distillery

Tormore was built between 1958 and 1960 in the Cromdale Hills, on the edge of Speyside. Created to supply Long John, it was the first entirely new Scotch malt whisky distillery constructed during the twentieth century. The striking building was designed with the involvement of architect Sir Albert Richardson. Granite walls, a copper roof, elegant windows and a clock tower earned Tormore the nickname ‘The Pearl of Speyside’. The complex later received protected listed status.

In 1972, the number of stills was doubled from four to eight. Most of the production disappeared into blended Scotch for many years, so Tormore appeared only occasionally as an official single malt. Independent bottlers therefore played an important role in introducing the distillery to whisky enthusiasts.

Elixir Distillers acquired Tormore in 2022 and began a new phase of production in 2023. The spirit is known for an elegant, fruity Speyside style. Purifiers fitted to the stills provide additional copper contact and contribute notes of pear, peach, citrus, malt and gentle nuts, combined with a pleasing underlying structure.

Murray McDavid

Murray McDavid is an independent Scotch whisky maker and bottler founded in 1994 by wine merchants Mark Reynier and Simon Coughlin together with Springbank’s Gordon Wright. The name honours Reynier’s grandparents, Harriet Murray and Jock McDavid. From the outset, the company focused on an innovative approach to maturation and on matching whisky with carefully selected oak.

In 2000, the team behind Murray McDavid gained wider recognition by reviving Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay. Bruichladdich and Murray McDavid were sold in 2012, after which the bottling brand became part of whisky broker Aceo. Murray McDavid was relaunched from 2015, once again centred on its philosophy of the ‘Art of Maturation’.

The portfolio includes single malt, single grain, blended malt and blended Scotch. Ranges such as Benchmark, Mission Gold, Select Grain and Cask Craft demonstrate the breadth of the house, from approachable discoveries to old and rare whiskies. Murray McDavid is known for creative cask selection, small batches and whiskies in which spirit and wood clearly enhance one another.
