Great Lakes Still & Oak Smoked Malt 4 years shows a very different side of American whiskey. This Straight American Single Malt Whiskey is produced in Milwaukee from 100% malted barley and matured for four years in used American oak barrels. This gives the spirit considerably more room to express itself than whiskey matured in new charred oak. Here, malt, smoke and distillate character clearly take centre stage.

Bottled at 45%, or 90 proof, this Smoked Malt combines toasted grain and freshly baked bread with dark chocolate, grassy notes and pronounced smoke. Its peaty character adds depth, but the whiskey is by no means defined by smoke alone. The combination of malt, cocoa, freshness and used oak makes this a fascinating American interpretation of smoky single malt.

Nose

Pronounced smoke with dark chocolate and warm freshly baked bread. Toasted malt and biscuit provide a clear cereal foundation, followed by gentle oak and an earthy note.

Palate

Full and malty with peaty smoke, toasted grain and dark chocolate. Biscuit and fresh bread are complemented by a distinctive grassy freshness, preventing the smoke from becoming heavy.
