Nose

Rich and inviting with raisins, orange peel and dried fruit, followed by caramel and gentle malt. Warming spices and a lightly nutty note develop as the whisky spends more time in the glass.

Palate

Full and luscious with sultanas, candied orange and warm fruity sweetness. Spices, malt and a refined bittersweet note from the Amontillado sherry casks provide balance and additional depth.

Finish

Medium in length and smooth with dried fruit, orange peel and mild spices. Elegant sweetness and lightly nutty cask notes linger pleasantly.

Millstone is the whisky brand of Zuidam Distillers, the independent family business based in Baarle-Nassau in the Netherlands. Patrick van Zuidam wanted to use the knowledge of his parents, Fred and Hélène, to create a Dutch whisky with a character of its own. The first experimental casks were filled in 1996. After years of development, Millstone was launched and became one of the pioneers of Dutch whisky. Its name refers to the millstones traditionally used by windmills to grind grain.

Millstone is produced from grain to bottle within the family distillery. Zuidam grows much of the barley and rye itself. A seven-day fermentation and slow distillation in copper pot stills create a fruity and complex spirit. Maturation takes place in a broad range of casks, including new American oak and former bourbon, Oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, port and wine casks.

The range includes unpeated and peated single malt whisky, powerful rye whisky and limited single cask releases. Millstone’s rye expressions in particular have gained considerable international recognition. The brand brings together Dutch grain tradition, family expertise and distinctive cask choices in a recognisable whisky identity.
