Wagging Finger Malt & Rye Project
This Malt & Rye experiment is an "in-between" in the series in which different distillates from the distillery have been combined. On the one hand, a Single Malt matured in an ex-bourbon cask and, on the other, a 95% Rye distillate matured in new American oak. The wood influence is unmistakable in this powerful whisky but it competes well with the spices coming through from the rye distillate. A very interesting experiment from Wagging Finger's kitchen.
Tasting note
Nose
Spicy and engaging right from the start, with cinnamon, anise, and rye bread aromas. There’s a warm sweetness in the background – honey, vanilla, and orange zest. A floral note sneaks in too, alongside light caramel and subtle oak.
Palate
Full-bodied and bold with an immediate rye kick: clove, black pepper, and a hint of cocoa. The malty base keeps it grounded – think fresh apple pie, raisins, and a touch of licorice. The texture is rich and oily, offering a perfect balance of spice and depth.
Finish
Long and warming with lingering spice. Notes of ginger, orange bitters, and soft vanilla glide into a smooth, elegant end. The rye presence stays persistent without overpowering. A dram that keeps your attention to the very end.
