Waterford Heritage Goldthorpe
Serge Valentin gave this Waterford 90 points on WhiskyFun.com. This is definitely a wonderful Irish Single Malt Whisky.
Tasting note
Colour
Bright gold with a slight amber glow. The whisky looks light and sparkling in the glass.
Nose
The first impression offers a fresh and lively aroma of grain, mixed with sweet honey and flowers. Subtle notes of freshly baked bread, mixed with hints of citrus and green apple. Hints of vanilla and light oak influences are also present in the background.
Taste
On the palette, the whisky starts silky and refined, with a distinct grain flavour reflecting the terroir of the Goldthorpe plot. A pleasant sweetness of caramel and honey emerges, balanced with fresh fruity notes of peach, pear and apple. As the whisky develops, spices such as white pepper and cinnamon emerge, adding a pleasant warmth.
Finish
Medium-length finish with a slight oily texture. The sweet and fruity flavours linger, along with a hint of oak and a fine, spicy warmth that slowly fades.
Waterford Distillery
Waterford Distillery is located in the historic town of Waterford on Ireland's south-east coast, a region known for its rich agricultural traditions. Founded in 2015 by Mark Reynier, former director of Bruichladdich Distillery, Waterford has quickly distinguished itself for its unique approach to whisky production.
A unique feature of Waterford Distillery is their emphasis on terroir, applying the concept from the wine world to whisky. They use only locally grown barley from different farms, with each batch reflecting the unique characteristics of the farm's particular terroir. The distillery documents and tracks every aspect of the production process, from field to bottle, ensuring transparency and traceability.
Waterford whiskies are known for their distinct and complex flavour profiles, with notes of fruit, spice and grain, which vary depending on the origin of the barley. Maturation takes place in a combination of ex-bourbon, French oak and Vin Doux Naturel (VDN) casks, contributing to the depth and versatility of the whiskies.
The combination of a beautiful location, innovative techniques and a strong commitment to quality makes Waterford Distillery a leading name in the world of Irish whiskey.
