Nose

The nose offers an elegant blend of sweet aromas, including ripe stone fruits like peach and apricot, along with toffee, vanilla, and a touch of spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. You can also detect the influence of the sherry and Malaga casks through the scent of sultanas, dried apricots and lightly toasted oak

Taste

On the palate, you taste a rich, full flavour experience with layers of sweet fruit, honey, and caramel. The influence of the Malaga casks emerges with a soft, almost creamy sweetness, while the pot still whiskey also provides a slight spiciness and a creamy texture. There are also notes of stewed fruit, vanilla and a hint of chocolate.

Finish

The finish is long, sweet and warming, with lingering notes of honey, dried fruit, oak and a hint of spice. It is a soft, velvety finish that reflects the rich influences of the three types of casks.

Midleton Distillery in County Cork continues a distilling tradition that began in 1825. The Murphy family established the Old Midleton Distillery within a former woollen mill and military complex. In 1867, it became part of the Cork Distilleries Company, which joined John Jameson & Son and John Power & Son in 1966 to form Irish Distillers. To bring Irish whiskey production together, a modern facility was built beside the old distillery. Old Midleton closed in 1975, when production transferred to the new plant.

Irish Distillers has been part of Pernod Ricard since 1988. Midleton is now home to brands including Jameson, Redbreast, Powers, the Spot Whiskeys, Method and Madness and Midleton Very Rare. Grain whiskey, single pot still whiskey and malt whiskey can all be produced on the site. Large copper pot stills, continuous column stills, extensive maturation warehouses and an experimental microdistillery allow an unusually broad range of styles to be created.

This versatility is Midleton’s defining strength. The distillery preserves classic Irish traditions while using its scale and technical possibilities to explore new mash bills, cask types and maturation methods.
