This whiskey offers a fine example of traditional Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey and is loved for its complexity and rich flavour.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose offers an elegant blend of sweet aromas, including ripe stone fruits like peach and apricot, along with toffee, vanilla, and a touch of spices like nutmeg and cinnamon. You can also detect the influence of the sherry and Malaga casks through the scent of sultanas, dried apricots and lightly toasted oak
Taste
On the palate, you taste a rich, full flavour experience with layers of sweet fruit, honey, and caramel. The influence of the Malaga casks emerges with a soft, almost creamy sweetness, while the pot still whiskey also provides a slight spiciness and a creamy texture. There are also notes of stewed fruit, vanilla and a hint of chocolate.
Finish
The finish is long, sweet and warming, with lingering notes of honey, dried fruit, oak and a hint of spice. It is a soft, velvety finish that reflects the rich influences of the three types of casks.
Midleton Distillery
Midleton Distillery is located in the town of Midleton, County Cork, in southern Ireland. Founded in 1825, the distillery has a rich history and is home to some of Ireland's most iconic whiskey brands, such as Jameson, Redbreast, and Green Spot. The current facility was opened in 1975 and is one of the largest and most modern distilleries in the world.
A unique feature of Midleton Distillery is the use of both traditional copper pot stills and advanced column stills, which allows them to produce a wide range of whiskeys. The distillery is known for its triple distillation process, which results in an exceptionally smooth and refined whiskey. In addition, Midleton uses a variety of casks for maturation, including ex-bourbon, sherry and wine casks, creating complex and rich flavour profiles.
Midleton whiskeys are known for their quality and craftsmanship, with flavours ranging from fruity and floral to rich and spicy. The combination of a long tradition, innovative techniques and a commitment to quality makes Midleton Distillery a pillar in the world of Irish whiskey.
