Description

Bushmills is known as one of the oldest and most respected distilleries in Ireland, and this rare 1975 release underlines that reputation. This single malt whisky matured for almost a quarter of a century in carefully selected casks and was bottled in the year 2000 as part of the exclusive Millennium Malt Private Cask series. With its long maturation and unique character, this whisky offers unparalleled depth and complexity that will delight aficionados and collectors alike.

Tasting note
Nose

A lush bouquet of tropical fruits such as ripe mango and pineapple immediately emerges, accompanied by scents of dried apricots and honey. Warm notes of vanilla and butterscotch are subtly complemented by hints of old oak, leather and a touch of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.

Taste

A silky smooth and complex taste experience with layers of dried fruit, rich toffee and creamy vanilla. The influence of the long ageing process shows up beautifully in notes of dark chocolate, toasted almonds and a subtle hint of spice. A gentle touch of orange peel and light floral notes add depth and sophistication to the whisky.

Finish

Long and elegant, with a lingering sweetness of honey and caramel, intertwined with warm spices and a subtle hint of tobacco. The tannins of the oak provide a dry and refined finish, while a hint of sherry influence adds pleasing depth and balance.

Bushmills Distillery

Bushmills is located in the village of the same name on the north coast of County Antrim. The brand traces its historical origins to 1608, when King James I granted Sir Thomas Phillips a licence to distil spirits in the region. The present distillery, however, cannot simply be equated with that licence. The Old Bushmills Distillery was officially registered in 1784, an important distinction within its centuries-old history.

Following a devastating fire in 1885, Bushmills was quickly rebuilt and further expanded. The distillery later survived difficult periods for Irish whiskey, including American Prohibition and the collapse of major export markets. In 2023, the modern Causeway Distillery opened beside the historic site, increasing production capacity while preserving the established character of the spirit.

Bushmills malt whiskey is triple distilled from 100% malted barley. Its copper pot stills create a light, fruity and smooth spirit, often showing apple, pear, honey, vanilla and gentle spice. Alongside blended whiskeys, Bushmills has earned a strong reputation for long-matured single malts and the use of bourbon, sherry, port and wine casks.
