Description

Italy has enjoyed a remarkable connection with great whisky for decades. Italian enthusiasts and merchants were early admirers of exceptional single malts, and Alexander gives that longstanding appreciation of quality a distinctly Italian interpretation. For this Amarone Cask Finish, single malt whisky meets one of Northern Italy's most characterful wine styles.

Produced in Veneto from Italian and English malt, the whisky is double distilled and matured using casks that previously held Amarone. Particular care is taken in selecting refined oak, ensuring that the powerful wine influence remains beautifully balanced. Bottled at 46%, this is the most intense expression in the range: full and layered, with dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, spice and a refined dry oak structure. A distinctly Italian single malt where whisky and wine complement rather than compete with each other.

Bottega

Bottega is an Italian family-owned producer from Veneto with a long background in viticulture and distillation. The family had been involved in winegrowing for generations when Aldo Bottega and his wife Rosina founded Distilleria Bottega in 1977. Grappa initially formed the heart of the business. Under their son Sandro Bottega, the company developed into an international drinks house producing wine, Prosecco, grappa, liqueurs and eventually whisky.

During a stay in Brazil in 1985, Sandro gained further experience with whisky distillation and began pursuing the ambition of creating an Italian single malt. This eventually took shape as Alexander Single Malt. The whisky is double distilled in pot stills in Veneto and made from Italian and English malt combined with pure Alpine water.

Bottega uses different types of oak for maturation, with wine casks from its own estates playing a particularly important role. Expressions have been released using former Amarone, Brunello and other red wine casks from the family’s wineries in Veneto and Tuscany. In 2024, Bottega also brought a new dedicated whisky distillery into operation, combining its expertise in wine, oak and distillation in a distinctly Italian approach to single malt whisky.
