Description

Miyagikyo Single Malt

Miyagikyo Single Malt is an elegant Japanese whisky from Nikka, produced at Miyagikyo Distillery in Sendai. The distillery was founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, who deliberately chose a green, cool and humid location to create a softer style of single malt than Yoichi. This whisky shows that character beautifully: refined, fruity and rounded, with a fine balance between soft malt and gentle spice. Expect an approachable yet layered Japanese single malt with orchard fruit, honey, vanilla, soft malt and an elegant spiced finish.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Fresh and refined with apple, pear and ripe peach. Honey, vanilla and soft malt follow, alongside light floral notes and a touch of citrus. Subtle spice and gentle oak appear in the background.

Palate

Rounded and smooth with yellow fruit, honey and creamy vanilla. The whisky has an elegant malty base, supported by peach, apple, gentle spice and a hint of nuttiness. Everything remains beautifully balanced, with that typical Japanese precision and softness.

Finish

Medium length and elegant with lingering fruit, honey and soft spice. It closes slightly dry with vanilla, malt and refined oak.

Miyagikyo Distillery

Miyagikyo Distillery is located in Japan's picturesque Miyagi Prefecture, among mountains and rivers, near the city of Sendai. Founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka Whisky, this distillery was chosen for its ideal climate and natural environment, which contribute to the production of smooth and elegant whiskies.

A unique feature of Miyagikyo Distillery is the use of a combination of traditional pot stills and column stills, which enables the production of both single malt and grain whisky. The distillery uses pure spring water from the nearby mountains, which contributes to the purity and finesse of their whiskies. Maturation takes place in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry and new oak casks, creating complex and layered flavour profiles.

Miyagikyo whiskies are known for their fruity and floral character, with notes of apple, pear, vanilla and subtle spices. The whiskies have a smooth and balanced finish, which enthusiasts worldwide appreciate.

The combination of an idyllic location, high-quality ingredients and a commitment to quality makes Miyagikyo Distillery a prominent name in the world of Japanese whisky.

Miyagikyo Distillery
