Black Nikka was launched in 1965 as Nikka's premium blended whisky, that is, first class for the time.

It was incredibly popular over the following decades, but in response to changing drinking habits, Nikka introduced a new, lighter version in 1997, the Black Nikka Clear Blend.

This was a cleaner blend, with an unriped malt base, light and elegant, prefect for first-time whisky drinkers or highball fans.

Now, with its Nikka - Rich Blend is trying to appeal to those who have been drinking their whiskies highball style for a while and are ready for something more, well, richer.

Specially, they promote the Nikka - Rich Blend as a great whisky on the rocks and as a perfect house whisky for experienced whisky drinkers.

Nikka Black - Rich Blend is made from Miyagikyo malt, with non and low proof, with a high proof Yoichi seasoning, with key components matured in ex-sherry casks.

The complexity of the malts - sweet and full-bodied - is balanced by the lightness of the Coffey grain whisky.

This is a completely different profile to the standard Nikka Black, smoother and more elegant.
