Tasting note
Colour
Luminous gold - the whisky's clarity and purity reflected in a beautiful golden hue.
Nose
The aroma is lively and inviting, with top notes of sage, ripe green apple and subtle hints of ripe pineapple. These fresh and fruity aromas are refined by a gentle smokiness, giving a taste of the complex flavours that follow.
Taste
On the palate, a rich and complex flavour profile unfolds. The first impression is a harmonious blend of herbal smoke, herbes and grapefruit, followed by sweet accents of acacia honey. The combination of smoky notes and fruity nuances creates a layered and profound flavour experience that is both refined and full of character.
Finish
The finish is clean and smoky, with lingering undertones of fresh green citrus that leave a refreshing aftertaste. The balance between the smoke and citrus creates a slow, pleasant finish that invites another sip.
Hakushu Distillery
Hakushu Distillery is located deep in the forests of the Southern Japanese Alps, in Yamanashi Prefecture, surrounded by the rich natural landscape of the Japanese mountains. Founded in 1973 by Suntory, Hakushu builds on the rich tradition of Japanese whisky, inspired by the pioneering spirit of the nearby Yamazaki Distillery.
A unique feature of Hakushu is the use of pure mountain water from the rivers that cross the region, which contributes to the freshness and clarity of their whiskies. The distillery uses a variety of stills and matures their whisky in a wide range of casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry and Japanese Mizunara oak casks. This results in a complex and layered flavour profile.
Hakushu whiskies are known for their light and fresh character, with notes of orchard fruit and a subtle spiciness. The distillery places a strong emphasis on preserving the natural environment and using sustainable production methods.
The combination of an idyllic mountain location and a commitment to quality makes Hakushu Distillery a respected name in the world of Japanese whisky.
